George
Ranch Historical Park - Have you ever wondered
what it would be like to live and work on a ranch
during the pioneer days? In Fortbend County, just
southwest of Houston, lies a 480 acre living museum
on a 23,000 acre working ranch. It was founded 180
years ago by a couple of pioneers by the name of Henry
and Nancy Jones when settlers were coming to the area
for promises of cheap land and a new life. Four generations
of their descendants would live and work at the ranch
finding success from working the land.
At the George Ranch, you can get
hands on experience in ranch life and take guided
tours from historically costumed enterpreters, or
tour the facilities at your leisure. You can view
a 1830's stock farm, a beautiful Victorian mansion
circa 1890 and a 1930's ranch house. If you get a
hankering for some vittles, the Dinner Belle Cafe
serves up delicious Texas road house cooking and before
you leave, you can shop for ranch style souvenirs
at the Dry Creek Gift Shop. You can buy anything from
apparel to history books to Texana wrought iron decorative
pieces. Whatever time of year that you may be visiting,
check out the calendar on the website for exciting
family oriented events.
